Fitbit to donate $1 million to charities with most registered steps

Nov 09, 2015

FitForGood.jpgDo you walk?  Do you donate to charity?  Let's put the two together and raise money for the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society through Fitbit's new challenge, FitForGood.

Anyone with a Fitbit account can sign up at Fitbit.com/FitForGood and choose one of three charities to credit their steps toward.  The charity with the most steps at the end of the challenge on Friday, November 20, will receive $500,000.  The second place charity will receive $350,000 and third will receive $150,000.  The three charities are American Heart Association (AHA), American Diabetes Association (ADA), and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“The work that each of these three organizations do is so important to our country and closely aligns with our mission as a company, which is to give people the tools to help them live healthier, more active lives,” said James Park, Fitbit Co-Founder and CEO.

Home-Office-FitBit-wrists_story.jpgRenal Ventures supports all three of these organizations through our efforts and dollars.  RVM supported the AHA by dressing in red for National Go Red for Women Day to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in women.  RVM sponsored a recent National MS Society fundraising lunch in Denver.  As a part of November 2014's education department resource box, RVM included handouts  to raise awareness of the connection between diabetes and CKD and linked to ADA's Diabetes Month materials.  (American Diabetes Month takes place every November, so head over to ADA's site and download materials to review with patients and your family).

As of November 9, Fitbit users have racked up 273 million steps.  AHA has earned 112 million steps, with ADA earning 82 million steps and the MS Society at 783 million steps.

- Sign up today and let's get walking for these three great organizations!
