National Wear Red Day on February 5 encourages women to check their heart

Jan 28, 2016

National-Wear-Red-Day_story.jpgJoin the American Heart Association's (AHA) Go Red for Women movement to raise awareness of heart disease and save lives.  2016 marks the thirteenth year that the AHA has held National Wear Red Day.  On February 5, we're encouraging all Renal Ventures employees to wear red and inform patients about the prevalence of heart disease and stroke in women.

Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.  Fortunately, that can be changed because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.  RVM and the AHA encourage women to schedule a well-woman visit, a prevention check-up to review overall health, blood pressure, cholesterol and look for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses.

You can also donate directly to Go Red For Women. By doing so you help support educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.

- Check out Go Red at RVM events from last year

Moorefield-goes-red_story.jpgWatch for our photos on February 5 on Facebook and/or Twitter with the hashtag #RVMgoesRed and #GoRedWearRed!

The AHA's Go Red campaign has accomplished so much including nearly 300 fewer women dying from heart disease and stroke every day and nearly 90% of women reporting at least one healthy behavior change.

For more information check out AHA's Go Red for Women web site and follow them on Twitter to get daily inspiration, photos, heart disease news and healthy living tips.
