Diabetes > Food For Sick Days
When you are sick, you may have a low appetite and not want to eat. However, it is very important for you to eat. Eating will help you have good blood sugar control. Eat one carbohydrate serving every hour while you are sick.
Here are some examples:
- 1 cup chicken or cream soup, made with water (only once or twice a day)
- ½ cup apple or any fruit juice
- 3 graham crackers (2 ½ inch squares)
- ¼ cup sherbet (not sugar free)
- ½ cup regular Jell-O
- 6 unsalted saltine-type crackers
- ½ cup cooked cereal (cream of wheat)
Each of these foods and liquids contains 15 grams of carbohydrate.
