Choose a variety of foods

  • Eat 3 balanced meals and at least 1-2 snacks
Eat a carbohydrate source at each Meal and Snack
  • Breads, Cereals, Rice, Pasta
  • Crackers, Rolls, Popcorn, Baked chips
  • Bagels, Cream of Wheat, Oatmeal, Cold cereals
  • Fruit or fruit juice
  • Milk or yogurt
More Tips
  • Limit intake of concentrated sweets and desserts
  • Limit intake of saturated fats, trans fat and dietary cholesterol.
  • Include lean protein foods with meals and snacks
  • Learn to read labels
  • Take insulin or pills for your diabetes as the doctor ordered
  • Lose weight if you are overweight
  • Try to limit stress as much as possible
  • Check your blood glucose as prescribed and understand your levels
  • Talk to your Dietitian if you need help with your meal plan
